All about ebook readers & Kobo

Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Kobo have had ebook readers on the market for quite a while now and it’s safe to say that their popularity is growing rapidly. In fact, last year Amazon declared the Kindle 3 as their, “best-selling product ever.” Needless to say, this is quite an accomplishment for a niche product in a world filled with tablets, smartphones and other portable devices capable of performing multiple tasks. Nokia’s Stephen Elop visits McMaster (Full Video)

Besides pranking my fellow peers and stressing over exams all day today, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a presentation by none other than Stephen Elop (CEO, Nokia). In the presentation, the McMaster graduate discussed many topics (some quite controversial) including the future of mobile devices, Apple’s iPhone, Android OS and the recent strategic decisions made by his company (Nokia). It was interesting to see Elop’s own views on why partnership with Microsoft was essential to maintain competition in the mobile market. Anyhow, without further to do I have attached most of the presentation below in addition to a download link (just as a backup).

A paperless future for the newspaper industry?

As of today, the Daily newspaper is officially available through the App Store. For an annual subscription fee of $39.99 or a weekly fee of $0.99, users have access to the latest articles injected with fancy multimedia content (Galleries, 360 degree photos, Videos and Graphs). The app has been specifically designed for the tablet interface. A simple flick of the finger allows for page turning and the ability to search through a vast number of articles. Additionally, an audio version of the paper is included incase you’re not the reading type. Did I mention that the first two weeks are free? Anyways, check the video attached to this article out for a demonstration.
