Trim your monthly bills, switch to a VoIP based solution

It’s that time of the year again. The time of the year when all the holiday shopping has completed, only to be followed by endless credit card statements from the christmas/boxing day shopping spree you partook in this holiday season. Lucky for you, there are several strategies you can implement in your lifestyle to quickly reduce your liability (and perhaps start saving for the next holiday season?). In the past, Lifehacker has already produced several guides relating to the subject of interest like: Eliminating your Cable Television bill (1, 2) and consolidating your credit cards. However, now Canadians have a third option when it comes to reducing monthly liability thanks to a company known as Fibernetics. In this article, I discuss my experience using Freephoneline as my primary home phone provider as well as some advantages and disadvantages (honestly, brainstorming was required to come up with any disadvantages discussed in this article).

Want to learn something? Download our free course notes!

As a student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program, I am required to take a course on Collaboration and Peer Tutoring (4X03). One of the main criteria for evaluation is my ability to communicate verbally and non-verbally (written, body language). In order to demonstrate my non-verbal communication, this semester I took upon the task of writing detailed notes that not only summarize lectures, but also communicate ideas and concepts discussed in my own words. Additionally, the notes also include analogies and other helpful information to help ease the learning process. I am now releasing these notes in hope that they may aid someone wanting to gain knowledge on the topics. PDF and online links have been included.

Microsoft WebMatrix Released

Looking for a free alternative to popular web development utilities such as Dreamweaver? If so, you may be interested in Microsoft’s new WebMatrix application. Currently supporting only Windows (it’s very similar to Coda if you’re on a mac), WebMatrix comes integrated with a server, database, php, and ASP.net, allowing you to test your code without messing around with configurations. The program comes pre bundled with open source script such as: WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and Umbraco, and supports one click installations (Perfect for individuals who want to create a plugin or theme for Worpdress without hosting everything live on the internet). Publishing your content directly from WebMatrix to a remote server is also possible via the integrated FTP client. For more information on WebMatrix’s features, please visit Microsoft’s website or view the video below.
